SUMMER TERM DATES: REGISTRATION BEGINS for JD students on March 30, 2023. Summer classes start May 22 and end July 12, 2023 and exams will be held on July 17–18.

APPLICATION FOR SUMMER VISITING STATUS FOR NON-SCALIA LAW STUDENTS: Non-Scalia Law students who wish to take summer courses must apply for summer visiting status. Applications can be found on LSAC.org.

(N.1) This course will meet offsite two Fridays a month at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Alexandria, Virginia, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. The first meeting date will be announced by the instructor

(N.2) This course will meet on May 25, June 1, June 8, June 15, June 22, and July 6. All sessions will be offered via Zoom, but Judge Kimball Mizelle will be in Arlington to teach on May 25, June 8, and July 6.

(N.3) The Negotiations course will be offered over three weekends, May 20–21, June 3–4, and June 24–25, meeting each day from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Students must attend every session to receive credit.

(N.4) Information regarding the application process for summer 2023 student-advisors will be sent via a Law News email in the near future. Enrollment only with the written permission of the Instructor. The clinic will meet for two hours weekly for class during the summer term. M-VETS students-advisors continue to meet each week for class and office hours, and they have responsibility for the matters to which they have been assigned until the commencement of the Fall 2023 semester.

(N.5) Information on applying to participate in Legal Writing for Law Clerks has been sent via LawNews email. Enrollment only with written permission of instructor. Students who are accepted will be notified by the Records Office and must confirm they want to be enrolled by email to lwrecord@gmu.edu. Once students confirm, the Records Office will enroll them in the course.

(N.6) Law 201-R01 will meet at the following dates/times in the first half of the summer: May 23, May 30, and June 6 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:50 p.m. with other dates to be scheduled with the instructor. Final papers will be due July 7, 2023.

(N.7) Law 201-R02 will meet at the following dates/times in the second half of the summer: July 19, July 26, and August 2 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:50 p.m. with other dates to be scheduled with the instructor. Final papers will be due August 17, 2023.

(N.8) Students must receive approval to register for any Supervised Externship program and should submit the Externship Information Form found in the Externship module on Symplicity to begin the process. (Virginia Practice Externship applicants will submit the form after meeting with Professor Davis.) To access the form, log into Symplicity and select Externship Module from the “Shortcuts” on the right side of the screen. Once approved, students will be registered by the Records Office for the appropriate externship course. Compensated externship credit is NOT available during the summer term. Remote externships sections will have remote and asynchronous-only tutorials and are available only to students who will be working outside the Washington, D.C. metropolitan are this summer and so cannot attend the tutorials in person. First-Year students must have completed the required Civil Dialogue & Inclusive Lawyering sessions in order to enroll in an externship or clinic

(N.9) Students registering for this course will attend the WIPO-C-IP2 Summer School on Intellectual Property to be held from June 5 through 16, 2023, with hours that vary slightly by day. Students registering for this course must also register through WIPO’s website. Students taking this course for academic credit will pay tuition to Scalia Law in lieu of the registration fee. The course will consist of lectures, case studies, simulation exercises, and group discussions on selected intellectual property topics, with an orientation towards the interface between intellectual property and other disciplines. Additional details are on the C-IP2 website.

(N.10) This asynchronous section of Economics for Lawyers is meant for incoming transfer students. It will open on June 17 and close on August 4, 2023, with the final exam the week of August 7th.

MAKE-UP EXAMS FOR ANY REASON OCCUR ON THE EXAM MAKE-UP DAY — JULY 19. STUDENTS MUST SUBMIT A PETITION TO THE RECORDS OFFICE SEEKING PERMISSION TO DELAY AN EXAM.
