M-VETS Perseveres to Recover Judgment for Veteran Family
Through tenacity and dedication, the Mason Veterans and Servicemembers Legal Clinic (“M-VETS”) recently secured payment of a judgment for a Veteran tenant and his wife. In October 2018, former M-VETS Student Advisors Casey Hunt and Michael Vlcek litigated a case against the couple’s former landlord, seeking return of their security deposit. The trial court entered judgment for the full amount of the security deposit, plus court costs and interest. Initial efforts to collect on the judgment failed, but the M-VETS team persisted and filed a lien against the landlord's real property. When the landlord sold their property, the couple received their judgment, plus costs and interest. Read M-VETS press release for full details.
