Second Scalia-Ginsburg Colloquy to Consider Recent First Amendment Case

Scalia and Ginsburg
Antonin Scalia & Ruth Bader Ginsburg

The second Scalia–Ginsburg Colloquy will delve into a detailed analysis of the groundbreaking First Amendment case, 303 Creative LLC v. Elenis, handed down by the U.S. Supreme Court in June. This virtual event, scheduled for Wednesday, October 4 at 5 p.m. EDT, will bring together two constitutional scholars, each representing distinct perspectives. The colloquy aims to provide a well-rounded and insightful examination of the issues presented in this case. Registration for the event is free and can be completed by clicking the button below.

The distinguished speakers for this program are Erin Morrow Hawley, who serves as senior counsel and vice president of the Center for Life and regulatory practice at Alliance Defending Freedom, and Tobias Barrington Wolff, the Jefferson B. Fordham Professor of Law and deputy dean for equity and inclusion at the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.

The inaugural colloquy took place in July of this year and centered on the U.S. Supreme Court’s affirmative action case, Students for Fair Admissions Inc. v. President & Fellows of Harvard College. The inspiration for the colloquy series grew out of the enduring friendship between the late U.S. Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Their legendary camaraderie survived despite their sharp differences on the bench. Drawing from their example, Scalia Law, with the generous support of the Scalia and Ginsburg families, established the colloquy series. It serves as a platform for renowned scholars to engage in substantive, yet civil, discussions covering various facets of significant legal issues.
